On Saturday 5th of April some our members attended the official opening of the community garden. For a number of years we have supported Grimsby in Bloom with litter picks and gardening to support the development of a community garden in the Duke of York Gardens.
The garden (a former bowling green) has been fenced off to allow development of the site. There are polytunnels, raised beds and a new office. The polytunnels allow the volunteers to grow plants as well as vegetables for the garden and to be sold to the community. There have also opened a "repair shop".
The garden was officially opened by the Mayor Councillor Beasant who planted a commemorative rose bush. This was followed by a buffet.
It was a nice sunny but there was a cold wind!
