Our guest at the fifth Wednesday evening meeting (at the YMCA) was Rob Walsh, Chief Executive of North East Lincolnshire Council for one more month. The meal was good and the portions were more than adequate.
Rob gave a very interesting and comprehensive talk covering topics such as transport, local government reorganisation, devolution, opportunities and training. He was very positive about the future for Grimsby not only with renewable energy but for industry especially with the ports. He said that “devolution was not going away and both parties are committed to it”.
The new Mayor of Greater Lincolnshire will have an extra 24 million per year to spend.
It will be a historic moment for Grimsby, because the result would be declared in the Town Hall (Rob is the Returning Officer).
The mayoral meetings would rotate around the County, and a permanent base has yet to be established.
