Friends of the Rotary Club of Brighton planting crocus corms to commemorate World Polio Day

24th October 2024 was World Polio Day. For several decades, Rotary International and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation have jointly funded the World Health Organization's campaign to eliminate this dreadful disease by vaccinating all children. Before the wars in Gaza and Darfur started, cases were only being reported regularly in 2 countries. Now cases have started to be reported in Gaza and areas of Chad where refugees have fled from Darfur.

The Rotary Club of Brighton donates funds every year to Rotary International's PolioPlus charity. Please help us do this by donating £2 by texting RCOBTWO to 70085.

When children are vaccinated, a purple dye is painted on one of their fingers to show that they have been treated (kids love the sugar lumps on which the vaccine is administered!). To publicise the campaign, Rotary clubs all over the country have been planting purple crocuses which will flower early in Spring 2025. The Rotary Club of Brighton and some of its friends have planted crocus corms by the Rotary welcome sign on the A23 and in Preston Park.
