Heroes and Heroines Night

Mon, Feb 10th 2025 at 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Five Rotarians have kindly agreed to speak for approximately 8 minutes on their chosen hero or heroine.

To be held at Hexham Golf Club.

Cost £12.50 for a light buffet.

Organisers: Christopher Porter, Lynn Sayers

Five Rotarians have kindly agreed to speak for approximately 8 minutes on their chosen hero or heroine. As a flavour of what is to come, the heroes and heroines are wide and varied:

- Healer. Business woman.  Traveller. Entrepreneur.  Role model.  Victim.  Forgotten.  Now revered.

- Activist, fighter against fascism and for freedom.

 - A writer, gardener and designer with a vision way ahead of their time in the understanding of the built environment to provide a positive impact on care.

 - Inventor. Changed the world. Almost unrecognised. Died a pauper. Love and kidnap.

-  An English philosopher, jurist and social reformer who, ahead of his time, advocated individual and economic freedoms, universal suffrage, separation of church and state, freedom of expression, diversity, the right to divorce, animal rights, the extinction of slavery and capital punishment and the importance of Magna Carta.

Our speakers will present their heroes and heroines in different ways - from the light touch upper level to the serious. If you leave the evening thinking - I never realised ...  That person truly changed the world for the better... then it will have been a success. It is also an opportunity to meet fellow Rotarians and their partners, new and long servers hence it would be excellent if as many could come as possible.

The format is 3 speakers followed by a light finger buffet (£12.50 per person). Drinks are available from the bar (chargeable) and then a 2 further speakers. The bar will also be open afterwards.

Bookings use the same process as lunch menu selection and for a partner, simply add another person.

The Golf Club have asked for indicative numbers as soon as possible with a final cut off of 31.01.25. It would be really helpful if you could book early please.
