Annual 3-way quiz - get your thinking caps on!

MORPETH ROTARY ANNUAL QUIZ

Morpeth Rotary welcomed quiz teams of four each from Morpeth Lions and Morpeth Inner Wheel, with Alan Barron as quizmaster.

The first round questions went from geometry to VAT rates, medical terms, quotes from the Bible and Mr. Darcy's first name. Then, who discovered the smallpox vaccine, how many people died in WWII, the largest state in the US and what is the measurement of a gill. The music round was the most difficult including Elgar, Paul McCartney, Bach and Andrew Lloyd Webber. Being a well travelled lot, the winning team did best on obscure photos of towns across the world in a picture round.

It was a tensely fought contest with Lions and Rotary having equal scores at half way and Inner Wheel well behind. Inner Wheel rapidly caught up but at the end Rotary won, six points ahead of Inner Wheel, with Lions only three points behind them

The winning team of retired headteacher Michael Duffy, Great North Air Ambulance worker Bob Bruce, fount of knowledge David Auld solicitor and Jeff Reynalds were disappointed that the man who was to bring the traditional silver salver trophy had forgotten it.
