Borderlands Spectacle Project Phase 2!
In phase 1 of our spectacle project, in conjunction with other Borders Rotary Clubs, we collected, cleaned, sorted and shipped off two pallet loads of donated glasses to the Philippines to be distributed by a local Rotary Club. In doing this, we realised that there is an ongoing need for people in the Borders to have places to drop off unwanted spectacles for recycling. That's why we are moving forward in conjunction with Lions Clubs British Isles. Initially, we will be placing collection boxes in the Kelso area
Stichill Village Hall, Ednam Road, Stichill TD5 7TD
Kelso Health Centre, Inch Road, Kelso TD5 7LF
Mayfield Garden Centre, Glebe Lane, Kelso TD5 7AU
From there, we will uplift the spectacles and take them to Lions Recycling near Birmingham where the Lions Club volunteers will sort and distribute to many countries around the world. The lack of spectacles denies children and adults opportunities for education, employment and a better quality of life. Almost all cases of near and far sightedness can be corrected and normal vision restored with the correct spectacles. That's why this project is so important to Rotary Borderlands and to Lions Club members.
