The year is flying by and it’s time to start thinking about Christmas again. This starts
with the Oswestry Christmas Parade which this year will be on Saturday 6th December
2025. It is a large popular event for Oswestry which many people look forward to, but
sadly last year we had to cancel at the 11th hour due to very stormy weather. We hope
however this year that the weather will be more favourable and that you will support
this event again by entering a float in to the Parade.
Judging of the vehicular floats will take place at 10.00am at the New Smithfield Cattle
Market, and of the walking floats in Victoria Road just before the Parade starts. The
procession is scheduled to commence at 11.00am from Victoria Road/Lower Brook
Street, below the traffic lights gathering by the Co-Op.
We must stress that the only collections on the day must be made in authorised red
Rotary collection buckets. These will be managed by Borderland Rotary Club.
If you are able to enter a float or display, we would remind you that all entries must be
safe, be subjected to a risk assessment and be covered by public liability insurance,
this is to ensure the safety of all concerned.
We have some guide lines to help you fill out the risk assessment if you need help. In addition, it is vital that your vehicle is properly insured and legal for the purpose on parade day, as we can accept no responsibility for any damage or injury to either you or the transport you use.
We look forward to receiving your support by entering the procession, or in any other way you may wish to help make the event a special one for all those who come to the town to watch and enjoy it. So we know how many are taking part, could you please download the Entry Form, complete it, and email it to the Event Co-ordinator, Jonathan Jones. We look forward to hearing from you.
Let’s make it an enjoyable day for everyone.

Borderland Rotary enjoyed their annual canal walk and dinner this year by crossing the English Welsh border twice – setting off through the canal tunnel and out across Chirk Aqueduct into England. Then back into Wales for dinner at the Castle Bistro in Chirk.
Steve Jerman, Borderland president said, “It’s just great that Thomas Telford’s engineering masterpieces from 1802 is still standing and in such fantastic condition and it reminds me of my childhood near Chirk. I have lived abroad for many years so it’s so nice to revisit my old haunts – although I still don’t like the chocolatey smell from the old Cadbury’s factory”.
The aqueduct and viaduct are such iconic symbols of the border between Shropshire and North Wales and a reminder of our industrial heritage.
