LINDSEY Luxton, a founder member of Brit Valley Rotary Club has been installed as its new President for a second time, 25 years after she was first elected to the post.

The club was formed back in 1991 when its first President was Sherley Short, the first Lady President in Europe.

Lindsey took no time at all to show her leadership qualities, being elected for the first time in 1994/5, something she was able to share with her current colleagues with a photo of her induction evening.

She continued to be an active member of the club through the years in a variety of roles before elected President again this year.

It is testament to the club’s popularity that besides Lindsey the club boasts four other founder members in its ranks today.

The handover took place at the club’s weekly meeting at the Haddon House Hotel which also saw the induction of the President Elect (Paul Hicken), President Nominee (Patrick Stokes) and officers.

Retiring President Ian Ibbotson thanked all his committee’s for their hard work in supporting a number of projects throughout the year, and wished Lindsey success for the coming term.

Mrs Luxton in accepting the chain of office praised Mr Ibbotson’s dedication and commitment, and looked forward to working closely with the community.

She also announced her nominated charities as Purple (working with families on the Philippines rubbish tips), and Dementia Friendly Bridport.

She added “I hope that we can raise funds at the Melplash Show and with an enlarged charity fair and dog show in the spring.”

Other presentations during the evening saw former Presidents’ John Laurence awarded Honorary Membership and Bob Ponchaud the Club Service Cup, whilst the Partner’s Cup went to James Scott.
