You can help us achieve our goal of a polio-free world by helping us in your community, and by continuing to raise funds for PolioPlus. Every dollar equivalent (£) raised by purchasing the crocus's, will be matched 2-to-1, up to US$150 million by Microsoft owner, Bill gates and his wife.
To ensure we do our part for such a worthwhile cause, a group of us are organising a Community Planting & Litter Picking event on Saturday 21st October 10am – 2pm for World Polio Day (24th October). The event called Purple4Polio, some of you will be familiar with, you may remember we planted 3,000 crocuses with some daffodils in 2021 coming out of the pandemic, near the charity community garden.
This year we are going to be running this event in co-ordination with other Basingstoke Rotary clubs, Inspero and the community. We are going to plant around 8,000 bulbs, including Crocuses, Daffodils, Grape Hyacinth and possibly dwarf Iris. We are going to be planting out a couple of designs including the 'Rotary wheel'.
The area for planting will be in Stratton Park, our side of the park, close to the new ball court and Buckskin Lane, this area was chosen by Basingstoke Council as they would like to brighten up this area with some Spring colour.
It would be lovely if volunteers could contribute. If you would like to come along and help, even if only for an hour or if you could help with hospitality on the morning/early afternoon, please let me know.
Kind regards,
