All Aboard the good ship 'Ocean Venture'

On Monday 1 August - Yorkshire Day - members of Ossett Rotary Club took two young people, one from Ossett Academy and the other from Highfield School Gawthorpe to Royal Quay Marina in North Shields. The youngsters will be joining the crew of the Ocean Venture an ocean going yacht for six-day cruise in the North Sea. The cruise has been paid for by Ossett Rotary Club and has been organised through Ocean Youth Trust North.

During the cruise the young people will learn and develop teamwork /mutual trust. Make new friends, gain awareness of the environment, develop a sense of equality and fairness. They will spend time in other people's company - cook together, eat together, communicate as a team taking responsibility for their own actions and decisions. Whilst understanding the different needs and backgrounds of others. They will gain a range of sea, sailing, survival skills and gain a qualification.

The yacht, Ocean Venture, is based in North Shields near Newcastle upon Tyne is in perfect position to explore the breath taking North East coast visiting ports and anchorages such as Blyth, Amble, Berwick upon Tweed, Hartlepool, Scarborough and Whitby. On the Tuesday morning the yacht had left Blyth and was on its way Holy Island both our youngsters were having a great time.
