The meeting will be followed by a visit to Wargrave CP by Phil, Len and Ian to officially open the new library area. Kathryn Boothroyd will also attend.

This meeting was to inform club members of this years St Helens Creating Writing Competition which the club will again sponsor for the fifth year. Kathryn Boothroyd, St Helens Library Service Manager, explained that the theme for this year's competition will be "Save Your Planet and Be an Eco Hero" This coincides with focusing on environmental issues which is the theme of a Liverpool City region initiative. The club will sponsor the primary category again whilst The West Lancashire Freemasons will sponsor the secondary age group.

Kathryn informed the members of some of the statistics surrounding literacy levels in the borough so it is important and timely that our club continues to be involved in initiatives of this type.

Coincidentally, following the meeting President Phil Round, Vice Len Rainford and Community Chair Ian Parr went to Wargrave C of E Primary where they had been invited to cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony of the school's KS2 library. Kathryn also attended and it gave her the opportunity to meet members of the school English team. Going forward the library service can now offer further advice and support, another example of how networking through Rotary can have wider benefits.

At the school the children were listening to author Tom Palmer in what was a very enriching and enjoyable session.
