10. Closing Toast “Rotary, Fellowship & Peace the World Over

Nicola Laughton (Deputy Head) and Anita Johnson (Arts Teacher) gave an interesting talk to club members on Penkford School.

They put the school in context and gave the club members a snapshot of the creative, cultural and art experiences on offer at the school. They updated the club on the Glass Kiln project and how the £500 from Newton Rotary was being used. Some of this will support an enterprise project helping pupils to plan, budget for design, promote and sell to the local community. They hope to have a stall at this years Newton Gardeners' Association Flower and Vegetable show (which the club sponsors)

They also told the club how year 7 students planted the crocus bulbs for our Community Crocus Competition as part of the Purple for Polio awareness raising campaign. This was done as part of the schools Forest School lessons where pupils learn in outdoor spaces to appreciate and conserve their local environment. Staff also planted some of the bulbs as part of their staff wellbeing session.

Penkford School was this years winners and received a cheque for £100 towards school projects.
