The Velindre Cancer Centre, Cardiff

The Velindre breast cancer centre manages an active, extensive and award winning programme of research into a wide variety of cancers.

The team are well known for their work in discovering why some breast cancers become resistant to some forms of oestrogen therapy. They are working with colleagues at Cardiff University to better understand the effect of new treatments and how the cancer cells may change over time.
The team believe that in future, more patients will be successfully treated for breast cancer. They are committed to making it happen and money raised from “Walk The Wye” will be crucial to their success.
The Rotary Club of Monmouth, in conjunction with Chepstow and Ross on Wye Rotary Clubs, has organised and run the Walk The Wye event for the last 15 years, raising funds for breast cancer research. In those 15 years, they have raised just under £144,000 for the Velindre breast cancer research team.
75% of the funds raised in 2024 will be donated to the Velindre Cancer Centre at Cardiff, and 25% will go to other charities supported by the Rotary Clubs of Monmouth, Chepstow and Ross on Wye.
