Chris at the start of the abseil
Chris after the abseil
"When fellow Rotarian David Fawcett said that there were vacancies for volunteers to abseil down the Spinnaker Tower for the charity Abby's Heroes, I said that I would take on the challenge, if all our members sponsored me. I thought this would be a fitting end to my year as Club President.
I had done two charity tandem parachute jumps in the past, and had always wanted to do an abseil.
I was astonished at the number of people who sponsored me, and the final total was well over £800, with Gift Aid increasing that figure even more.
The event took place on Sunday 29th July, and my family and two members of RCFM also came with their wives to support me.
The abseil experience was amazing, and it was made even more perfect by the arrival of the Red Arrows, who were returning from a display further down the coast, and arrived over Gunwharf just as I began my descent.
I am happy that I was able to fulfil one of my 'Bucket List' wishes, and help such a worthy charity, which supports the families of children undergoing treatment for cancer.
My thanks to all the Rotarians and friends who supported me."
