Bomber Memorial 2010

Bolton Mountain Rescue and Chorley Ramblers hold a service on November 14th. 2010.
The Rotary Club of Horwich is delighted to see that both Chorley Rambers Group and Long Distance Walkers Group, along with the Bolton Mountain Rescue, hold an annual Memorial Service at the Bomber Memorial erected by the Rotary Club of Horwich in June 1955.
The twin engined Wellington Bomber Z8799 was from 28 Operational Training Centre at the RAF Wymeswold, Leicestershire, on a training exercise on the 16th. November 1943 when it crashed just north of Bolton on the Moors overlooking Winter Hill.
The subsequent inquiry concluded a steep dive by the plane resulted in a structural failure of the frame and the reason for the crash. None of the six crew members survived.
The Rotary Club of Horwich also holds a Memorial Service for the crew each year in early June.
