ROTARY FOUNDATION - and what it means

Since it was founded more than 100 years ago, the Foundation has spent more than $4 billion on life-changing, sustainable projects.

The mission of The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.

This year’s committee 2020, following on a taster donation of £700 towards PPE, have embarked on a “New beds for Rowcroft” project.  Rowcroft is the hospice for South Devon and provides comprehensive facilities for the local community.  It has regularly been supported by most South Devon Rotary Clubs in the past.

With public fundraising almost impossible, because of Covid-19, and Rowcroft’s fundraising programme severely similarly affected, we took on the challenge of trying to supply 5 new beds, costing £1,600+ each.  Rowcroft have launched an appeal for £50,000 for these and other items, because the existing beds are now 20 years old so the maintenance contract has ceased.  Several of our members have been contributing their own money to our charity account, since we have been unable to attend meetings with meals, thus saving the cost of the latter.  Financial help has come from 2 local Clubs and our District, which means that before Christmas we can present a cheque to Rowcroft for 2 beds and are attempting to provide 3 more by 30thJune 2021.

Contributions are now being sought from the general public.  These can be made by going to
