Improving Literacy

Rotary's National Initiative to improve literacy

Nationally, Rotary GB&I promoted a project to improve literacy by providing dictionaries to all Year Six students in preparation for them entering secondary education.

The following two photographs are merely a few taken from all of the presentations made to local schoolchildren within Newton Aycliffe and Heighington over recent years.

The first photograph taken at Byerley Park Primary portrays the Year six pupils, school teacher, Mrs. Pattison (left) and Rotarian Angela Stevenson (right). The second portrays Rotarian Jill Thompson and pupils of Aycliffe Primary School after the presentation of the dictionaries.
