Welcome to our Club’s website which is here to inform people of what Rotary is about and what we do, so I do hope you find it helpful. If you are interested, please feel free to get in touch, contact details are below.
The Rotary year starts in July with a new ‘management’ team appointed each year and new chairs for each of our 4 main committees, a secretary and treasurer, junior vice, senior vice and the club president. It is with great pride and pleasure that I have just been appointed as President for the year 2025-2026. This will be my second time in the role, the first was back in 2009-20210, I was obviously much younger then, I found it exciting and rewarding, but with a full-time job, quite hard to fit in. Since then, I have recently retired, and with the Rotary Club’s expectations of attendance and flexibility on commitment has made things much easier for all our members.
So, what’s my take on Rotary and why am I involved. Well, I find it a good way to support the community, both locally and worldwide. I’ve always found members to be friendly, honest and hardworking and willing to support all the many projects we undertake. With a good mix of different talents, we can organise different things pulling on everyone’s strengths. Other than being able to help others, I really enjoy the fellowship we have working as a close team.
Over the year we have regular events such as helping Santa on the street and then at care homes distributing gifts. We organise the Mud Run, have a stance at the County Show, help support youth groups with artwork competitions, we send students to motivational events south, carry out practice interviews, just to name a few. I must admit I was disappointed to have to stop doing the Bonfire and Fireworks Display in Kirkwall recently, but I’m sure we will turn our focus to other events as time goes on. Over the years we have been supporting many local charities, the supply of emergency tents via Shelterbox and trying to eradicate Polio throughout the world, as well as support to major disasters in the world through street collections etc.
Anyhow, I do hope you enjoy our website and find out more about us.
