On Tuesday 5th April, Vicky McDonald was the speaker and her topic was, ‘ Men who Crossed the Conwy and (Jean) ‘It covered a period from Roman times to the opening of the Conwy Tunnel in 1991.
Tal y Cafn close to the Roman settlement at Caerhun was the site of a Roman river crossing and when Edward the First built the castle at Conwy it controlled the crossing between east and the now more important west bank.
Thomas Telford suspension bridge was completed in 1826 and runs alongside Robert Stephenson’s wrought iron tubular railway bridge that was opened officially in 1849. A new road bridge was opened in 1958.
