Despite the struggles that Covid has brought to schools and students, our club was delighted to grow the competitions this year. We had Young Artist entries in all three age groups and participants from Westfield Art College and Dorchester Middle School. We had more entries for Young Photographer and some fantastic entries to Young Writer from Dorset Studio School, St Mary's CE Middle School and Sunninghill Preparatory School, so thank you to all the teachers who supported us and to the young people who entered.
The Young Photographer 2021/22 winner is Harry from Westfield with his "Shells and pebbles", judged a good composition, bright and colourful, using depth of field well.
Young Artist 2021/22 winners are Imogen and Ruby from DMS and Samuel from Westfield (Junior, Intermediate and Senior categories), all on the theme of 'The Colours Of Nature'.
Congratulations to the winners of Young Writer 2021/22 - Lauren from St Mary's CE Middle School in the Junior age group and Felix from Sunninghill in the intermediate category. As our judge Tony Boyden commented, "All the writers showed an excellent understanding of the problems we face in the environment and the urgent need to address them. This was very heartening and they are all to be congratulated."
Casterbridge Rotary Club would also like to recognise and thank Waterstones Dorchester for their support for Young Writer and sponsorship towards the prizes.
Winners and runners up have received their certificates and gift vouchers and on behalf of President Roy Chapman, we have been very happy to present three trophies this year - to Westfield for Young Photographer, to Dorchester Middle School for Young Artist and to Sunninghill for Young Writer.
We look forward to next year's competitions and events and hope to bring some new opportunities to the young people of Dorchester and our surrounding villages.
