Ueli came up trumps again this week with our  enjoyable evening at Liscombe Dairy Farm on Exmoor. Owners Oliver & Zoe Rose made our party very welcome and as well as a fine meal we found out about the working of their robot controlled milking parlour. Yes, their dairy herd of brown Swiss cows are automatically machine milked.

Situated near Tarr Steps the farm has capitalised on the number of tourists to the area by opening an ice cream parlour offering their own delicious Liscombe Farm gelata style ice cream. A large viewing window within it enables customers to watch the dairy cows wander up to the milking unit when they feel ready to be milked and the milk they produce is a premium quality. We were all able to try the ice cream ourselves and with 20 varieties to choose from we were really spoilt for choice.

Before the ice cream we’d already been treated to generous platefuls of canapes and a terrific barbeque meal. Bob had brought along large quantities of burgers, sausages, lamb steaks and several kilos of beef fillet. The barbequed fillet steaks were spot on and went down very well.

Congratulations to Ueli for organising another great Exmoor evening for us all.
