Recent Events
Mon 2nd Nov – Eric Wilson entertained members with the story of the passenger train that, in 1947, was stuck for 2 days in the snow at Glenwhilly (between Girvan and Glenluce)
Mon 9th Nov – evening – Donald McColm, proposed by Hew Chalmers, was admitted as a member. Donald is already well known to most us and there is no doubt that he will prove to be a valuable member. We hope that he enjoys Rotary!
Mike Greasley, assisted by Donald Peers, then told us about the Men’s Shed project aimed at improving men’s health by providing them with something useful to do in their spare time. This project seems well worth promoting!
Mon 16th Nov – Fellowship
Mon 23rd Nov – Alex Cairns spoke about ‘The Stone of Destiny’ – a serious subject which was lightened by his usual humour.
Mon 30th Nov – Archie Bell provided a very interesting history of the Clyde puffers with humour added by Dave Kirkwood who had added humour to the slide presentation!
Race Night
The amount raised at this recent event has been confirmed as £759.
Christmas Collections
Volunteers are required. The proceeds this year will go toward a local project for the provision of a special meeting place for young special needs people.
Rugby
After Glasgow Warrior’s fantastic performance last season 6 of our members and one member from Kirkcudbright bought season tickets for this season as have 2 of our regular guests. Other members are welcome to join in for individual matches if tickets, which are in short supply for most games, can be obtained - just contact Tom Mitchell.
So far this season we have attended matches against Scarlets, Connacht, Dragons and in November Ospreys, Northampton and Treviso.
A trip to Belfast is being planned for the match on Friday 12th February. It is planned to stay overnight at the Premier Inn in the city centre – used by us on a previous trip. Please let Tom know ASAP if you are interested in joining the party as a booking will need to be made soon!
Club website
Tom Mitchell, who a few years ago took on the responsibility of setting up and maintaining our website, has advised that he will be giving up this responsibility. Well done to Steve Dampney for agreeing to take over from Tom.
Press Officer
Members should get in touch with Tom Mitchell, in his role as Press Officer, if they have anything they wish included in the Newsletter or reported in the press.
He particularly wishes photographs for publication and/or Club archives.
