Our two day event in aid of the homeless shelter in Barrow was somewhat eclipsed by a TESCO initiative to collect for the Cumbria Flood Appeal - we collected cash on Saturday for the Appeal and Tins etc for the homeless shelter in Bath Street - the cash colection resulted in £1454.47 being collected by our Rotary Club Team on behalf of the appeal from the incredibly generous public shopping at TESCO Extra Barrow in Furness. In addition to donations of toys etc which was handled by the TESCO store staff.
On the Sunday we were back to collecting for the homeless shelter and had 7 huge crates of food as well as 20 pints of milk and 3 christmas trees and an additional cash collection of over £600 which will go a long way to providing a safe and hospitable christmas for the many homeless that unfortunately exist in our town.
Peter Garwood Community Service chairman for the Rotary Club of Furness said that he was humbled by the generosity of shoppers he had come across in the course of our two day project and said he was thankful for the support of his rotary club colleagues, many of them who had dressed festively for the occassion.
