We are proud to announce that this year’s award has been given to Carol Young in recognition of her fundraising efforts for two of our local charities.
Carol started her fundraising career at the Leonard Cheshire Home organising social activities, outings for the residents and also the annual summer fete. She did this for 36 years, which alone is a fantastic achievement.
Whilst the Keech Hospice was in the process of being built in Luton, during a Christmas and New Year period, it suffered at the hands of senseless vandals who smashed the newly installed windows. On hearing this, Carol immediately raised money at a New Year dance raffle to pay for the replacement of the windows.
As the Keech Hospice has grown over the years so too have its financial needs. Carol’s efforts increased in line with this. She has organised many events including dances, curry nights, and events at the hospice. As a fundraiser she will not let anyone leave an event until their pockets have been emptied for Keech.
Many Ampthill residents will recognise Carol as she runs a regular charity stall at Ampthill market on Thursdays selling books, bric a brac and general goods for the charity. Her conservatory resembles an Amazon warehouse, with all the items for the next market stall.
Over the last twelve years, Carol has raised in excess of £300,000 for Keech.
To help raise awareness and much needed funds, Carol also regularly give talks to various organisations including Rotary, Inner Wheel, WI, Ladies Circle.
It is without question that Ampthill has been significantly enriched by her fundraising efforts.
