Report of year's activities

This report shows the activities and links with Rotary that are so important for a student club

Rotaract Report to AGM 2016.

Weekly meetings were held during term time.  Membership was down at 14 with usually only 6 or 7 attending each week due to study pressures.

Dennis Hopper gave a talk to a joint meeting with the Russian Society which created a heated debate.

Jack Daniels gave an interview about his world travels, surprising members that he had been to each of their home towns.

Kirsty Hastie judged the “Best Story of the Easter Break” which showed the things students get up to.

John Black, Hamish Tait and Roger Myers are helping a Rotaract member with interviews at the Anthropology Society event she is organising.

The District Governor attended a Rotaract meeting and our Assistant Governor will attend to-night.

Keertna gave a presentation on the School for Abandoned Girls in India to the District Council in Perth.

Anastasiya gave a presentation on Crimea to Glenrothes Rotary Club.

Our Rotary Club has had presentations from Anna on Mongolia and Keertna on the Abandoned Girls in India.  Next week President Fedor will talk on Moscow and his time as Rotaract President.

The club won the prize for the Best Rotaract club in District and a Presidential Citation from Rotary International last year.

Members have helped Rotary at the Dunhill, the Polio Day collection and the Christmas Card Sale where they took a stall.

They held a bake sale to raise funds for their main international charity project “A School for Abandoned Girls in India”  It is hoped to raise funds to pay for a visiting teacher, upgrade computers and provide easy learning software to give the girls some proper education.  They will ask the Rotary Club to help them apply for a District Grant if they can raise enough funds.

Socially members hosted Edinburgh Rotaract Club on their visit to St Andrews.  They also visited the farm to see new born lambs and calves.  Two visits to the auction mart to bid and buy cattle and also to view the bull sales were eye openers for members.

They cheered up the public of St Andrews on Valentines Day by handing out free roses.

For a small membership and only the few weeks of term time, taken up with usual student pressures, the Club members have done well.

My thanks to my committee and others who have been supportive to me, especially Rotary members who have given personal donations to the “School for Abandoned Girls”
