Recent Events

Mon 4th April - Donald McColm provided an interesting biographical talk.

Mon 11th April – Tom Stevenson provided an update on the Mull of Galloway Trail

Mon 18th April – Our AGM was well attended. Various Council members presented reports which show how active the Club is. It never ceases to amaze me how much we do for others both locally and throughout the world. All Club positions have been filled with the exception of a Junior Vice President. Nominations will be welcomed!
The bad news is that the Rotary GB&I element of our annual subscription has been increased by £3. The good news is that most of the increase has been absorbed by the Club with our subscription being increased by only £1 to £96. No doubt our Treasurer will remind us in June that payment is due by the end of that month.

Mon 25th April – Hew Chalmers, who is involved in sports administration at a very high level as a member of the British Olympic Association, spoke about 'Doping in Sport'. A very interesting and topical subject!

Rotary Ride for Prostate Cancer

We are supporting this national event by holding an event in the castle square on Saturday 18th June. Plans are at an early stage but at the moment it is planned to have at least one static bicycle in constant use by club members who will have obtained sponsorship. A licence has been obtained permitting us to do a street collection. (There is a change of date for this event which will be circulated in due course.)

Rugby

After Glasgow Warrior’s fantastic performance last season 6 of our members and one member from Kirkcudbright bought season tickets for this season as have 2 of our regular guests. Other members are welcome to join in for individual matches if tickets, which are in short supply for most games, can be obtained - just contact Tom Mitchell.
During April we attended the home game against Zebre and saw Glasgow record a record win! This is the last home game this season unless Warriors beat Connacht in Galway next Saturday to finish 1st or 2nd and get a home play off. Let Tom know as soon as possible if you would like to take advantage of any unused season tickets.
Some of us have shown our faith by buying tickets for the final at Murrayfield on 28th May. Provisional hotel accommodation has been booked. Thankfully we did this some time ago as hotel rooms are now scarce and expensive. We do however have provisional bookings for 3 spare rooms at the original price. Tickets are still available. Let me know if you would like to join us.

Mull of Galloway Trail marathon & walk etc

We have had a good response so far to the Marathon Trail events entries and Gordon Baird has requested our help in obtaining more.

Press Officer

Members should get in touch with Tom Mitchell, in his role as Press Officer, if they have anything they wish included in the Newsletter or reported in the press. He particularly wishes photographs for publication and/or Club archives.
We have articles in the Free Press on a regular basis and expect to have an article in the next edition of the District Magazine.
We are in touch with Border TV who are interested in featuring the Mull of Galloway Trail in their Border Life programme. We have suggested that they could tie this in with the marathon.

Defibrillator

A site has been identified in Castle Square and installation is being investigated.
