Membership
We are an active Club but, like many other Clubs, our membership numbers are declining. It is clear that we are not meeting the needs of potential members and that change is required. Club Council would like to hear the views of our members and in the circumstances the lunch time meeting on Mon 3rd October has been changed to an evening meeting (usual time) to allow time for full discussion. A discussion document prepared after an informal meeting of members has been sent out to members. It is essential that we hear the views of our members and make decisions!
Recent Events
Thurs 1st Sept - The rain did not spoil the enjoyable bowls and meal at the Tigh na Mara with the 41 Club.
Mon 5th Sept – Alastair McWilliam updated us in his autobiographical talk titled ’20 years on’
Mon 12th Sept – evening – Steve Sloan, ex CEO of Global Alliance for Livestock Veterinary Medicine provided a very interesting talk about this charity. It works with pharmaceutical companies to develop and supply low cost vaccines to subsistence farmers in the 3rd world. Steve was an excellent speaker!
Mon 19th Sept – Fellowship
Sat 24th Sept – Prostate Cancer Ride – this event had to be cancelled because of the bad weather!
Mon 26th Sept – Alan Leiper spoke about and showed a video of a skydive which he bravely experienced while visiting his son in Australia.
Community Service Award
Please advise Mike Sheppard of any suitable candidates.
Defibrillator
The defibrillator which we have donated to the town has now been installed in the Castle Square. The defib which will be located in Morrisons has been ordered as has the one which the North West Castle is also obtaining. They are paying for it but have saved a substantial amount by us using our purchasing contact. They have agreed that their staff training will be opened up to others.
Our contact is happy to let us order for others so let Tom Mitchell know if you hear of anyone considering a purchase.
Rugby
Our group of supporters and friends made good use of their season tickets to watch Glasgow Warriors last season.
All of our group have renewed their season tickets and have been joined by a new supporter bringing us up to 9.
We had 2 trips to Glasgow in September starting with an exciting victory Saturday 10th against last season’s finalists Leinster and then lost narrowly to Ulster on Friday 23rd.
Our season ticket holders will again be making their tickets available to Club members for individual matches which they themselves are unable to attend.
There are home games on Friday 14th October against Leicester and Friday 28th against Treviso. Let Tom Mitchell if you are interested in making use of any spares.
Press Officer
Members should get in touch with Tom Mitchell, in his role as Press Officer, if they have anything they wish included in the Newsletter or reported in the press. He particularly wishes photographs for publication and/or Club archives.
We have articles in the Free Press and in our District Magazine on a regular basis.
