Nov 7th – Fellowship.
Nov 14th – evening – Chris Robinson, PGA Professional at Portpatrick Dunskey Golf Club, spoke about his role as a club golf professional and his work in promoting the growth of the game, particularly among young people and the challenges which the game faces. Very interesting – even for non golfers!
Nov 21st – Stewart Fitzsimmons, past President of Stranraer YFC and present President of Dumfries & Galloway YFC, provided an excellent talk about the YFC movement and what they do.
Non 28th – Our speaker was Stephanie Gosling who, along with colleague Fiona Fay, was the joint recipient of our annual Exemplary Service Award at Stranraer Academy because of their work in the ‘Scotland Reads’ programme. She explained how pupil volunteers are used to help, daily and on a one to one basis, pupils who have difficulty in reading.
A candidate, Margaret Jamieson, has been identified and presentation arrangements are being made.
Skiffs project
Good news for this project which is being led by Gordon Baird. - the awaited grant of £12,500 has now been agreed.
Golf
Vice President Neville Wright is in touch with Larne Club regarding a possible golf match to be played each Spring.
Curling
Hugh Parker has returned from his Rotary curling trip to Canada which involved 17 games against other Rotarians. The ‘hectic’ trip involved being hosted by fellow Rotarians are visits to 6 Clubs.
Rugby
Our group of supporters and friends made good use of their season tickets to watch Glasgow Warriors last season. All of our group have renewed their season tickets and have been joined by a new supporter bringing us up to 9.
We had 2 trips to Glasgow in September starting with an exciting victory Saturday 10th against last season’s finalists Leinster and then lost narrowly to Ulster on Friday 23rd.
In October we travelled to 2 home games and enjoyed wins against Leicester and Benneton Treviso.
In November we travelled to the only home game – unfortunately Warriors, without 19 internationalists lost to Ospreys.
December has 2 excellent home games which are guaranteed to be complete sell outs as has every home game this season – Munster on Friday 2nd and Racing 92 on Friday 16th.
Our season ticket holders will again be making their tickets available to Club members for individual matches which they themselves are unable to attend.
Contact Tom Mitchell if you are interested in making use of any spare tickets.
Press Officer
Members should get in touch with Tom Mitchell, in his role as Press Officer, if they have anything they wish included in the Newsletter or reported in the press. He particularly wishes photographs for publication and/or Club archives.
