Rotary International Polio Imunization project in Bhiwadi India

Two Frome Rotarians, Dot Cretney and Mariliyn Dorrington left the UK on Wednesday 25th January bound for Bhiwadi City southwest of New Delhi India as members of a 21 UK Rotarian team to immunize children as part of the Rotary International drive to eradicate polio completly. 

On Sunday the 29th January it is expected that the team will immunize 28,000 children under the age of 5 in Bhiwadi. The 21 UK Rotarians are supported health workers all who wear yellow to attract crowds in and help administer the vaccinations.

The team will be mobile from 8.0am to 4.0pm working accross the city and then the following day travelling from house to house picking up the children that did'nt come out to the booths.

In total accrosss India the project will administer 170 million doses of vaccine.

In addition to the vaccination program the Rotarian team visited 5 Rotary projects in schools and education centres, a Rotary sponsored crematorium as well as a hospital.

They also had the opportunity to meet and dine with Local Rotarian members.
