Supporting Food Banks Last Monday the 14th January 2019 the Rotary Club of March was given a most enlightening presentation by Barbara Taylor Coordinator of the March Branch of the Ely Food Bank. The March Branch is part of a nationwide network of food banks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK. It operates from the Centenary Baptist Church in the High Street from 12.30 to 2.30 on Tuesdays and works using a voucher referral system by local agencies. Barbara explained that the use of the food bank had increased by 30% since it opened 6 years ago and over the recent Christmas period had helped 56 families. There is no typical person that comes to a food bank for help. In addition to supplying food, where appropriate, families with a variety of problems are pointed to different agencies for help and guidance. The recent closure of the Citizens Advice Bureau at the Library has however caused problems. After being thanked for her most enlightening presentation Barbara was presented with a donation of £400 by President Rtn. Alan Burdass.
