Recent Donations to Star Throwers

The Wymondham Rotary Satellite Group (RSG) has been able to make a series of donations to Star Throwers over recent years as a result of their fund-raising activities. In 2017, a donation paid for a conservatory extension to the Star Throwers building thus enabling another room to be freed up for consulting and making better use of their facilities. 

As part of its ongoing support for local charities, RSG has made a number of grants in 2018 to Star Throwers to help the services they deliver to those affected by cancer.

One of these paid for the complete refurbishment of the consultation room where cancer patients and their carers can attend one-to-one support and advice appointments with the Nurse and Doctor. Tina Martins, Star Throwers Nurse said: “I am delighted with the new room. It is a much better environment to see the patients and carers and give them advice on their cancer diagnosis and options available to them”.

Another grant has been used to fund a massage training course for eight volunteer therapists currently working at the centre. The new course enables the therapists to provide massage specifically designed for cancer patients.  In 2017 Star Throwers therapists gave over 350 massage treatments to cancer patients and their carers to help with stress and pain relief and to aid relaxation during their cancer journey.

The new room improvements will provide the best possible surroundings for our one-to-one advice appointments and up-skilling our therapists ensures that we are always providing the best holistic treatments to cancer patients and their carers”.

At the end of July 2018, the RSG organised another charity football event in memory of Les King with all proceeds going to Star Throwers.  Les King was an enthusiastic supporter of Star Throwers and a great local personality.  This received excellent support from the community with a total of over £4500 raised.  This money will be used for important future projects at Star Throwers.
