Taunton Rotary Young Musician takes top prize

Poppy McGhee, a talented young musician and violinist achieves a top prize a the annual national final of the Rotary Young Musician 2018

Poopy Mcghee, competed at local, district and regional levels to gain a coveted place in the national final of the annual Rotary Young Musician competition. The event, held on 20th May 2018 saw young musicians from across the country compete against an array of exceptional talent.  Poppy achieved second place to beat fourteen other competitors, with a virtuoso violin performance that ‘wowed’ the audience.

Supported by the Rotary Club of Taunton, Poppy also won the prestigious ‘Sandy Padgett Award’ at the recent Pride of Somerset Awards’ evening.

Rotarian Alan Reeve who has been supporting Poppy throughout the competition stages also attended the national final in Llandudno. He commented, ‘Poppy’s performance was outstanding and she truly deserved her place as runner up.  Members of the Taunton Rotary Club are all so very proud of her and we will watch her career develop with great interest’.

It is hoped that Poppy will also be able to perform at the Club’s annual music concert to be held later this year at the Temple Methodist church.
