Grand tour for Polio

In May 2018 teams from Rotary Clubs in The UK and Ireland, including ours, undertook a publicity Rally (not a race) – in Purple for Polio branded vehicles – visiting as many of Rotary GB&I’s districts as possible to raise awareness still further.

Grand Tour for Polio

Here we are for the start of the two venturesome explorers. At 8 0'clock they will leave the warm hospitably of the Woodman and venture North in search of funds.

During there travels they will make frequent stops rattling a tin for funds for polio eradication.

30 or so years ago, when NEW polio cases were running at 1000 per day, at the suggestion of one Rotarian, Rotary Clubs across the world agreed they would try to eradicate Polio
In consequence of the huge publicity and fundraising undertaken by Rotary across the world, that 1000 per day has been reduced to just 27 in total in 2017; and none so far in 2018.

We still have further to go to achieve the eradication aims.

In May 2018 teams from Rotary Clubs in The UK and Ireland, including ours, will be undertaking a publicity Rally (not a race) – in Purple for Polio branded vehicles – visiting as many of Rotary GB&I’s districts as possible to raise awareness still further.

During the Rally, teams need sponsorship – all monies donated go to the cause – none goes to team expenses. As we travel we’ll gather passport stamps to show our progress at various ‘orienteering’ points in major tourist centres where Districts will do their own ‘bit’, on the spot, to maintain the impetus of both publicity and fundraising over the 4 days of the event

The Bill and Melinda Gates foundation will treble the funds raised!

For our team the event starts in our home district. We have yet to work out our route but ALL competitors will finish the event in Yorkshire (at the Halifax Piece Hall)

Total £2500 Trebled to £7,500 by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation
