Our International Activities

International is about the work we do supporting events and initiatives in the international community which underpin the values of Rotary.

Whether we are tackling poverty or supporting disaster relief, Rotary’s global network and connections help us support communities around the world.

The majority of the Club's activities are focussed on supporting local causes, but we are always ready to help those in need and less fortunate than ourselves outside of the UK.

We support Rotary’s long term worldwide effort Polio Plus aimed at the eradication of Polio worldwide. This has been a long hall but is very close to success and continued effort is required to ensure complete eradication of this debilitating disease.

We have also sponsored pupils through education in Nepal via the Fishtail Project. This is the final year of our 6-year project funding two Nepalese secondary school students, Manisha and Rachana.

Each year Newark Castle Rotary supports both Shelterbox and Aquabox charities which provide disaster relief to stricken communities.

This year we are supporting Village Water, a Shropshire based charity established by a fellow Rotarian in 2003 to aid supply of clean water, sanitation and hygiene education to remote villages in Zambia and latterly also in Mozambique.

We also support the Mary’s Meals Backpack Project. So many of the children who receive Mary’s Meals in Malawi come to school without the basic tools for learning. Giving the children a backpack full of educational items enables them to get the most out of their education.

We have raised funds for Sand Dams which are the most cost-effective form of rainwater harvesting and provide communities with a clean, local and reliable source of water – even during periods of drought.
