The Monmouth branch of St John’s needed to upgrade their radios to make use of the new digital network that is being introduced throughout South Wales. Divisional Officer Mark Jones said “with improved communications we can be more effective in our response to situations where people require our assistance. We needed help with funding to purchase a base station for our vehicle and two handsets as a minimum, to be effective”. Rotary President Patrick Chatterton at the time said “St John’s provide invaluable medical cover for the Raft Race, Walk the Wye and Fireworks night which are organised by us”. When Rotary Monmouth heard about the funding need, they stepped in to enable the purchase of the new equipment. A small group of Rotarians visited the Monmouth St John’s base, to meet the medical staff and cadets undergoing training, also to see the new radios.
