Friends of Newark Orchard School

The school has two sites, Appleton Gate for 3-4 year olds and London Road for 14-18 year olds.

The new school

On Tuesday 24th September Lisa Whaley (Friends chairperson), Clair Morton-Hare (Friends committee member) and Rebecca Taylor, Education School Health Leader gave a “Friends of Orchard School” presentation to the Club.
The school has two sites, Appleton Gate for 3-4 year olds and London Road for 14-18 year olds. They explained the purpose of Friends is to support the staff, school and most importantly the children. With such individual and diverse needs the Friends seek help from the headteacher and staff to make best use of any funds raised.
The school has currently 106 pupils with a wide variety of needs and will be increasing to 140 with capacity to expand to 170 places in their new London Road School (former Grove Leisure Centre) which is due to be completed in Spring 2020. Both existing schools will be moved to the one site which will greatly benefit both pupils and staff. There will be an increase of provision for students including a hydrotherapy pool. Rebecca said the School was grateful for Friends finding funding to use in the new school and for helping to develop its full potential with provision of equipment such as a soft play room and a modern library.
During the last school year Friends helped to buy resources for an Arts Week for the whole school, a Play Station and TV for Post 16, resources to support the Harry Potter topic, individual cameras for every class, mobile changing plinth, resources for the gardening club, resources for science, pool cues and pool balls and a Touch and Tilt interactive table.
