It was great to be back after not being able to hold this annual event last year due to Covid at the Xcel Sports Centre in Canley and we welcomed 8 schools, including 80 children and 27 staff from Special Schools across the West Midlands, and as far away as Worcester to our Sports Day. Sadly not all our schools were able to attend due to Covid and we hope next year for them to be able to join us.
We were very grateful for the help we receive from John Pearson and his team of bowlers, President Kennedy Sixth Formers and Staff, Students and Staff from Coventry College and Xcel Centre Staff. We were visited by our District Governor David Clayfield and Assistant District Governor for our area Alan Taylor.
The children took part in a range of competitive and non-competitive games. Some games they played as a team and some were individual.
Team games the children participated in were Boccia Ball, Bowls and New Age Curling. Individual games of Dart, Floor Darts, Connect 4 and Draughts. Non-competitive games of Connect, Skittles, and Buzz Wire were enjoyed by the children in between the competitive games.
Overall winners were Baginton Fields, second came Sherborne Fields, and thirdly Tiverton. The winner of the Pam Pearson Trophy for bowling was Sherbourne Fields School.
It was good to see so many smiling faces and hear so much laughter and we are already planning for next year with us looking at seeing if we are able to bring back Table Cricket and Polybat games to the day.
Many thanks go to Ian Bullock at Moseley Signs for creating our team signs.
