WRAP UP CUMBRIA 2019

Rotarians in Cumbria collected your old, unwanted coats and gave them to charities that support the homeless, refugees, children living in poverty and people fleeing domestic violence (to name a few).

Any size, style, colour of men’s, women’s and children’s coats was greatly appreciated.

All donations were then be sorted and delivered to our nominated charity partners [listed below], for distribution to those in need just in time for winter.

Penrith Rotary Club would like to thank Booths and WCF (both in Penrith) and Lakes & Dales Co-op in Lazonby and The Appleby Hub for their valuable support in acting as collection points for Wrap-up North Cumbria in the few weeks before Christmas.

A total of 34 collection points were available in North Cumbria and a total of 2793 items – mostly coats - were generously donated.  People from Penrith, Appleby  and the surrounding areas gave overwhelming support to this worthwhile cause and these are just some of the charities/people in our area, who received much needed items to wrap up and keep warm this winter:

Allerdale Homeless, Pause, Children’s services, Fareshare, Citizens advice, Foodbank, Calderwood House, WOW ( women out west), Howgill, Allerdale housing, West House, Cumbria youth alliance, Youth offending, Freedom project, Healthy hopes, Foyer Whitehaven, Foyer Penrith, Night safe Carlisle, Action of work, Moorclose children’s centre, Individuals who collected, Richmond fellowship, Human kind, Freedom project, Barnardo’s, Sure start.

Rotarians throughout North Cumbria gave over 645 hours of their time to ensure this venture was a huge success.  However, none of this would have been possible without the generous donations from the general public – so from all Rotarians in North Cumbria to all those who donated items, store space and time – THANK YOU.
