Each year The Rotary Club of Rayleigh Mill’s successful Charity Golf Tournament generates funds that the club subsequently donates to mainly local deserving causes, but also national and international aid programmes. The nominated beneficiary of the club’s 2019 Charity Golf Day was the Danny Green Fund.

The fund was founded by Danny’s parents, Chris and Lisa, in memory of their son, Danny, a 10-year-old boy from Canvey Island who suffered from Posterior Fossa Syndrome as a result of surgery to remove a brain tumour. The Syndrome leaves suffers unable to speak, swallow, unable to support their head or to walk.

Despite a brave and bitter struggle, Danny died in 2012.

The fund was set up by Danny’s parents to support children with PFS following brain surgery by providing essential equipment such as special needs buggies, iPads to help hand/eye co-ordination, and multi-sensory equipment to enhance recovery. The fund also provides funding for physiotherapy, hydrotherapy or horse-riding sessions to aid recovery from therapies and funds research into the illness.

Danny’s parents were on hand at the club’s Monday evening meeting when they were happy to receive a cheque for £2500 to further their charity’s aim of providing the facilities and care for those suffering from the effects of this devastating disease.
