Race Night

Wed, Mar 11th 2020 at 7:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Our recent Charity Race Night successfully raised sufficient funds to cover the cost of replacement of the existing Defibrillator located outside Well Pharmacy.

The current machine has been deployed 9 times, as a result of which 3 people have reached hospital alive. Coming to the end of its life, Club members were determined that the community should not lose this vital lifesaving asset and set about fundraising so a new one could be obtained and installed with no loss of service.

Approximately 70 racegoers filled the stands and munched delicious bar snacks at The Creeks End Inn, to whom the Club wishes to give particular thanks for all their support, both beforehand and on the night. Yvonne, Terry and all the team were integral to the evening’s financial success and the racegoers’ enjoyment.

In addition, several other local businesses kindly supported the event including Tally Ho Coaches, Excel Fish, ActionWest, Oceans Restaurant, Toad Hall Cottages, South Hams Brewery, as well as brewers, St.Austell, Coors and Greene King. It really would not have been possible to stage the event without the assistance they gave and the Club is hugely grateful to them.

Funds were raised via ticket sales on the night; selling individual horses for the meeting at £10 each; plus an auction of horses for the final race with the winning ‘owner’ receiving the £100 purse; and, of course, sponsorship – all of which amounted to the sum of £1,985.

So, look out for the new Defibrillator Kingsbridge Estuary Rotary Club will be providing in the next few months thanks to this wonderful effort by all concerned.
