Our major income is from our Christmas Float and Beer Festival but how do we spend our money?

Over the years the proceeds from the beer festival and our Christmas float collections are distributed amongst community organisations, schools  and charities within our local community, nationally and internationally.

Predominantly our money is distributed locally and in recent years we have supported the following key projects:

Newton Community Centre - where we donated £5k to help fund and sustain the centre

Newton Boys and Girls Club where we provided sustainability support for three years following their refurbishment

Earlestown Cricket Club where we helped fund their pavilion refurbishment.

Additionally we have provided 12 defibrillators to local organisations and with the assistance of the North West Ambulance Service provide training to members of the recipient organisations.

These have been our key projects locally but we provided smaller support for many other organisations. The list will be too long to publish but I am sure you will know some group locally who have benefitted from Rotary.

With respect to our school programme we run Rotary District competitions for Young Chefs, Young Photographer, Youth Speaks and each year we hold Young Achievers awards for 21 of the schools in our service area. We also sponsor the St Helens Creative Writing Competition run by St Helens Library Service for all school children within St Helens.

internationally we are supporting the World Polio Eradication programme which is the key humanitarian project of Rotary international. Last year we had 12 local organisations enter our community crocus competition and this year we have extended this to 18. Our fundraising in this last year generated £1000 to support this cause. We also support Disaster Aid, the Rotary Shoe Box Appeal, Sight Savers and Mary’s Meals amongst other causes.

In addition to donations we support and network with other clubs and organisations and hopefully  you can see that we are a very active club involved in a number of projects. Check out our What we do Pages to see all our activities. We aim to put all donations towards worthwhile causes and we are always willing to consider any projects you feel would benefit the local community. Get in touch via our contact page on this site.

The concept of Rotary is changing and we are looking for new blood to come and join us and participate in our many projects. If you are a person of action with some free time and someone who wants to make a difference, why not come and join us. Remember our motto, Service above Self.
