Each April for the past 13 years the Rotary Club of Falmouth, in association with the Stroke Association, have held  a  “Know Your Blood Pressure Day” in the Falmouth Methodist Church  between 10am and 3.30pm. Members of the public aged 18 years and over (with no upper age limit) are invited to have their blood pressure taken by a bank of qualified nurses. On average 150 men and women take advantage of this completely free service each year and it’s extremely well received throughout the town

There are some 152,000 strokes in the UK each year which equates to one every five minutes! High blood pressure is the biggest risk factor contributing  to a stroke but it has no symptoms and can affect people of any age. It’s estimated that 16 million people in the UK probably have high blood pressure and that the majority of them don’t know it!  If left untreated it can increase the risk of having a stroke quite considerably
