Outline of the Six walks for 2024

"Walk The Wye" is an annual Rotary Club sponsored walk, in the Monmouth area of the Wye valley, and organised by the Rotary clubs of Monmouth, Chepstow and Ross on Wye.


2024 Walk The Wye - Outline of the six routes

WALK Number 1 – Chepstow to Monmouth – distance 15 miles

Route outline….Join free bus at Monmouth Show Ground which will take you to Chepstow Leisure Centre. Take the Wye Valley footpath behind the Leisure Centre, over the hill at the 365 steps to Tintern, and continue on the footpath along the riverbank to Tintern Station and Bigsweir and Redbrook and the Show Ground

 

WALK Number 2 Tintern to Monmouth – distance 9 miles

Route outline…. Join free bus at Monmouth Show Ground which will take you to Tintern Station. Take the Wye Valley footpath along the riverbank to Bigsweir and Redbrook and the Show Ground.

 

WALK Number 3 – Bigsweir Bridge to Monmouth – distance 5 milesRoute outline…. Join free bus at Monmouth Show Ground which will take you to Bigsweir Bridge. Take the Wye Valley footpath along the riverbank to Redbrook and the Show Ground.

 

WALK Number 4 – Redbrook to Monmouth – distance 2 miles

Route outline…. Join free bus at Monmouth Show Ground which will take you to Redbrook. Take the Wye Valley footpath along the riverbank to the Show Ground.

 

WALK Number 5 - PENALLT CHURCH Viewpoint - distance of 8.5 miles.

Route outline….Walk from Monmouth Show Ground and through Wyesham and on to Redbrook via the old railway line. Cross River Wye to the Boat Inn, walk along riverbank towards Monmouth, turn left and take moderately steep path for half mile up to Penallt Church, (superb views over the Wye Valley), descend towards Redbrook, via Youngs Grove and  the Boat Inn, cross River Wye, flat path along riverbank to the Show Ground.

 

WALK Number 6 – KYMIN Viewpoint – distance 5 miles

Route outline….Walk from Monmouth Show Ground and through Wyesham to Wyesham Lane, follow lane up to the ridge and turn left on Offa’s Dyke footpath to the Kymin Round House (superb views to Welsh hills), down to Staunton Road and Wye river bridge, footpath along riverbank to the Show Ground.

 

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE WALKS…..

Unfortunately, none of the walks are accessible by wheelchair or pushchair.

You will be given written route instructions for your chosen walk, at Registration on the day of the walk.

Maps are not required, however, if you would like to follow your progress on a map, then we recommend that you use Ordnance Survey “Explorer” series map number OL14.
