Outline of the five walks for 2023

"Walk The Wye" is an annual Rotary Club sponsored walk, in the Monmouth area of the Wye valley, and organised by the Rotary clubs of Monmouth, Chepstow and Ross on Wye.


Outline of the five walks for 2023

WALK 1 - REDBROOK VILLAGE Walk - distance of 3.5 miles.

Route outline…..Follow the river downstream from Monmouth Show Ground to Redbrook. Cross the A466 and return to the Show Ground via the old railway line and Wyesham.

 

WALK2  - KYMIN VIEWPOINT Walk - distance of 5 miles.

Route outline….Follow the river upstream from Monmouth Show Ground to the Wye road bridge. Leave the river and head up to the Kymin viewpoint. A steepish climb. Excellent views. Head south on the ridge from the Kymin, before turning right to descend into Wyesham and onto Monmouth Show Ground.

 

WALK 3 - PENALLT CHURCH Viewpoint walk - distance of 8.5 miles.Route outline….Follow the river downstream from Monmouth Show Ground to Redbrook. Cross the river and walk up Lone Lane to the left of  the Boat Inn. Turn right after 500 metres and follow several tracks up to Penallt Church. Pass the church and descend through more lanes to the Boat Inn. Cross the river and return to the Show Ground via the old railway line and Wyesham.

WALK 4  - WYE VALLEY VIEW -  (Southern route)  - distance of 12 miles.

Route outline….Follow the river downstream from Monmouth Show Ground to Redbrook. Cross the river and follow the old railway line to Bigsweir Bridge. Cross the bridge and head up to the Offa’s Dyke car park. Continue up to the ridge and follow Coxbury Lane back to Redbrook. Excellent views along the lane. Return to the Show Ground via the old railway line and Wyesham.

 

WALK 5 - WYE VALLEY VIEW (Northern route) - with a distance of 13 miles.

Route outline….Follow the river upstream from Monmouth Show Ground to the Wye road bridge. Cross the road bridge towards Monmouth, bear right and continue to follow the river upstream. Cross the Biblins suspension bridge and continue upstream for 500 metres. Turn right and climb up through the woods to the village of Staunton. Continue to the Buck Stone viewpoint, and then onto the Kymin viewpoint. Descend to the Wye road bridge and follow the river downstream to the Show Ground.

 

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE WALKS…..

You will be given written route instructions for your chosen walk, at Registration on the day of the walk.

Maps are not required, however, if you would like to follow your progress on a map, then we recommend that you use Ordnance Survey “Explorer” series map number OL14.

Unfortunately none of the walks are accessible by wheel chair or push chair.

Free car parking is available at Monmouth Show Ground
