Club Meeting

Virtual meeting.

HELENSBURGH Rotary Club missed out on its annual Christmas Lunch this year . . . but held a virtual one instead.

The outcome was a Christmas gift to Helensburgh and Lomond Foodbank at the East Princes Street Community Hub of £340 worth of provisions.

The virtual lunch was the idea of president Derek Hall and president-elect Reay Mackay, who invited club members to contribute what they would have paid for a real lunch.

“I had been keeping my eye open for ways in which Rotary could contribute at Christmas, and I read in the Advertiser that Melanie Andrews of Craigard Tearoom had organised a Christmas Calendar of events, one of which was donations to the Helensburgh Foodbank,” Reay said.

Derek, who suggested the virtual lunch, added: “We think that donations to the Foodbank are a great way of supporting our local community.”

Reay and his wife Jean bought the items which they delivered to Scottish Window Solutions in East King Street, who arranged delivery to the Foodbank.

A virtual Christmas Raffle was staged by Derek. Adam Muggoch won a bottle of malt whisky, Douglas Dow a bottle of champagne, and Reay a bottle of claret.
