Walking challenge results in hospice donation

Denby Dale & District Rotary member sets himself a target of walking 1000 miles in 2020.

Walking challenge results in hospice donation

Despite shielding for nearly eight months of last year which restricted his ability to get out and complete long walks, Denby Dale & District Rotary member John Purvis set himself a target of walking 1000 miles in 2020.

The target of an average of approximately 2.7 miles each day encouraged John to go walking almost every day last year and he managed to achieve the target on Christmas Day.

John explained: “I promised myself that if I did complete the target, which I had just missed in the previous two years, I would send £100 to the Forget me not Hospice in Huddersfield.

John has now sent his donation which coincides with the 10th anniversary of Russell House.

The photograph shows John in the woods at Farnley Tyas on Christmas Day as he completed the 1000 miles.

His wife Sue presented him with a Country Walking magazine ‘walk 1000 miles neck tube’, useful in the weather we have been having!
