Alvaston Park - Clean Up The Park Day

We joined Friends of Alvaston Park and Derby Parks to help litter pick around the park.

We were invited to support the Friends of Alvaston Park and Derby Parks with their Clean Up The Park event and six of our members attended to help. There was a number of jobs available on the day including refreshing the wildflower garden, painting playground equipment and litter picking.

We litter-picked around the park with much of the litter being found in small areas of woodland and in hedgerows. Surprisingly there were not many face masks found, with the exception of where the park borders a local school. Much of the litter included sweet wrappers, discarded cans and bottles and used dog waste bags, we even rescued litter that had blown into the lake, which could become a risk to the ducks and geese, many of which currently have babies.

For the next Rotary year, there will be a new area of focus, Supporting the Environment and this is a great way that we can help the environment, cleaning up the park.
