Rotary Charity Golf Day

The winning team from Russell Property

The winners from Russell Property with Club President David Royle

The twentieth consecutive Annual Charity Golf Day of Bishop’s Stortford Rotary Club was held on Thursday 9th May 2019 at the Bishop’s Stortford Golf Club. Notwithstanding somewhat inclement weather, the day proved to be both enjoyable and financially successful. Twenty-two teams, two more than in 2018, took part in the afternoon’s golf competition won by loyal supporters of our golf days Russell Property. They are an independent firm of property specialists serving the Hertfordshire & Essex borders.

After an excellent evening dinner at the Golf Club, which was well supported with 121 diners booked in, the opportunity was taken to mark the loyalty of teams who have taken part for fifteen or all of the twenty years. David Graveney OBE, past chairman of selectors for the England Cricket team and current National Performance Manager was the guest speaker providing many interesting stories and anecdotes.

The evening’s open auction was an entertainment in itself in the capable hands of Hugo Richardson of Weldon Beasley. The net proceeds from the open and silent auctions and a successful Grand Draw, under the guiding hand of David Earl, raised in excess of £11,500 for causes nominated by our Rotary Club President, David Royle.

David said “We are, once again, as a Club, tremendously grateful to everyone who supported our golf day and made it such an enjoyable and successful event. Even more importantly, I say thank you on behalf of the many charitable causes which will benefit as a direct result of such generous support.”
