Pictured (left to right) are Executive Head, Ian Barton, Rayleigh Mill Rotary Club President, John Cuthbertson and PTA member, Lisa Hunt at the handover of the storage box on 20th July. Parents can donate unwanted items of their children’s’ school uniform, when they no longer fit or are moving on by dropping them off in the box, situated just inside the school gates.
Lisa commented “The PTA has been collecting unwanted ‘pre-loved’ items of school uniform for the last year, as it’s a simple way to raise money for the PTA, with the generosity of our parents donating their children’s unwanted school uniform. We hold 2 to 3 sales per year and all the proceeds go towards PTA causes, which gives parents significant savings whilst recycling garments. During lockdown, a group of parent volunteers have been doing it via social media from their own homes, which has raised £350 in a time when we could not hold any PTA events. In the next school year, we hope to be able to go back to school site sales and this new drop box will help make it so much easier for everyone”.Rayleigh Mill Rotary Club President, John Cuthbertson added “this is a great idea to raise funds for the PTA, save parents money on what can be an expensive outlay, when children have a habit of growing out of their uniforms all too quickly and also benefit the environment by recycling clothing”.
