It was good to visit Harwich Boxing who have contributed immensely to the success of our tournaments. I met Martin Webb who is their head coach and also a member of the England coaching team. Martin will again be the matchmaker for our Boxing Night and discussions have already taken place on the boxers and clubs who will take part. It is always our intention to improve year on year. I also met with the boxers who have only been back in serious training for the last two weeks. Martin would not expect them to be ready for the ring for another two months. In the photo, you may recognise many, particularly Rio Gordon who has often starred in our events. (Second from the left on the top row.) It was a delight to see all these youngsters again.
I have also visited Rory Burke of Patrick Boxing who was responsible for getting our event off the ground in those early days. There has been a significant turnover of youngsters in the gym due to the long period of inactivity. Nevertheless, Rory is taking a couple of boys down to Brighton for a tournament shortly.
